Thanks to the broad culturally historical spectrum in Saxony-Anhalt, the state possesses the highest concentration of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Germany.
Four sites solely belong to UNESCO World Cultural Heritage: Bauhaus Dessau, Collegiate Church, the Castle & Old Town of Quedlinburg, the Luther Memorial Sites in Luther Cities Eisleben and Wittenberg as well as the Garden Kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz. Furthermore, the Biosphere Reserve of Middle Elbe is a study location for sustainable development for the UNESCO riverscape biosphere reserve of the Elbe. The Nebra Sky Disc was included in the registry on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. This registry comprises documents that represent the collective commemoration of various ethnic groups. Since 2004 Harz Nature Park has been a part of the GeoPark "Harz Braunschweiger Land Ostfalen" for the Global UNESCO Network of GeoParks.
The area Saale-Unstrut and the Francke Foundations to Halle are two additional sites in Saxony-Anhalt in the application process for UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status.
