From the French Channel coast to St. Petersburg.
The European Bike Path crosses nine European states by 3,500 kilometers: France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia. Even if the distance in Sachsen-Anhalt with approximately 275 kilometers seems comparatively short, it is worthwhile to continue the bike trip here through Europe.
Coming from Lower Saxony you pass the former German domestic border on the European bike path and arrive at Harz Mountain circular tour, past the Drübeck Monastery, Wernigerode, Thale and Ballenstedt. Starting from Meisdorf the bike trip leads further through Europe into the foreland of the Harz Mountains, to the Harz Zealand, following Staßfurt and Bernburg. From Aken the European bike path accompanies the Elbe to Vockerode. Along the Elbe you reach the UNESCO World Heritage sites “Bauhaus Dessau” and “Garden Realm Dessau-Wörlitz“– take a break here and be inspired by the cultural diversity! Then, the way leads to the UNESCO-Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve. Passing Ferropolis, the gigantic “City of Iron” and the Bergwitzsee, you reach the Luther sites in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Now before you leave Sachsen-Anhalt on the European bike path, use the opportunity to stay in the Lutherstadt and discover for yourself the traces of reformation.
The distance consists of developed rural ways and separate bike paths. Particularly more challenging slopes and natural routes are to be found.
The European bike path runs identically to other bike paths in parts like the Harz Mountain circular tour, the Saale Bike/Walk Path, the Elbe Bike Path, the Berlin-Leipzig Bike Path or the Luther Trial. These bid further excursions, for example, on the adventure trail “Coal | Steam | Light “.
